What’s the very first web browser that’s still alive today?

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

After designing websites for nearly 15 years, there’s one thing that I learned very quickly and 15 years later I am still reminded about it every day — web browser compatibility. Today it’s much worse than many years ago. I remember like it was yesterday when all I really had to worry about was Netscape and IE. There were others, Opera was popular then too. But majority used IE and Netscape. Also, good old 800×600 screen resolution too!

Anyway, I had a random thought and decided to research what the very first web browser was and to check if that browser was still current. Amazingly it is! And I even guessed which one it was! — Lynx. (more…)

What is your favorite web browser?

What is your favorite web browser and why? Some of the more popular ones include Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, and Opera. For me, my favorite web browser is Google Chrome. Prior to Google Chrome becoming my favorite was FireFox. Although today, and I am NOT a Microsoft supporter, my second choice would be IE9. It’s a very clean design and it seems to have improved a lot over version 8.

One of the things I like most about Chrome though is the syncing feature available. With syncing I can use multiple computers and keep track of my browsing history, search history, and my bookmarks. FireFox and other browsers may offer this too but I am not sure. What is your favorite web browser and why?

Should Internet Explorer 9 Be Available For Windows XP?

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

If Microsoft continues to support Windows XP until August of 2014, then shouldn’t users be able to download and install Internet Explorer 9? To me it seems like it’s a trick to cause more people to upgrade. To tell you the truth, I like Windows XP over any other Microsoft operating system. There’s nothing wrong with it. It works great. But, unless Microsoft continues to create new products they will fail to earn money. Even still, if a company is going to provide extended support for a product shouldn’t one of the products core services be included? What do you think? Should IE9 be available for XP users?
