Does Google+ Help Increase Traffic To Your Blog?

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

With over 20 million Google+ users it seems that the new social networking service is taking off. Although I am reading that interest levels are seeming to settle. What I am curious about is if bloggers using the service are seeing any spikes in traffic to their blog. Either simply by bring more awareness of your blog on your profile page, or by promoting and sharing your content within the network. Have you testing this? Does Google+ help increase traffic to your blog?

I haven’t personally had a chance to test this closely, but I do know that I am definitely seeing some increases in traffic on my blog.

What Do You Think About Mac OS X Lion?

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

I just downloaded and installed Mac OS X Lion on my MacBook Pro and want to find out what other people think about the update. So far I am pleased with the update. Although it does seem like my computer is running slightly slower now. The new features are pretty cool. One thing I didn’t like about the update right away was the new trackpad settings. The directions are reversed. It’s easy to switch it back thought. Here are some screen shots:

The update is available for download on the App Store for $29. It was pretty painless to install. It just took a little bit of time.

How Often Do You Update Your iPhone Apps?

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Is it just me or is the process of updating iPhone apps a big pain in the butt? How often do you update your iPhone apps? Usually with how I am about keeping things up to date I try my best to keep my apps updated. The problem with me is that I get too far behind and end up having to do massive amounts of updates. I’m in the process of updating them now and once done I am to keep everything current.

Mac OS X WordPress Desktop App

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

I am kinda old school when it comes to computing. Today it’s all about doing things on the cloud. Just about everything is web-based. For email we have Gmail. For publishing on blogs we go direct to Blogger or WordPress dashboard. For reading and sharing information we have Google Reader.

For me, I have always enjoyed having things directly installed on my computer. It just feels like it’s local to me. Having a desktop application gives me the feeling that it’s part of my own computer. It’s part of my own personalization and customization. Using desktop apps, while is kinda dated, seems more personal to me.

That said, if you’re a WordPress and Mac user and looking for a really cool WordPress desktop app, check out MOApp’s myWPEdit. I found it in Apple’s App Store. Warning though, the app isn’t free, but it’s well worth the money. I created this post using the app. Here’s a screen shot:

Adding photos is very easy to do. Simply drag and drop the photo you want on the screen and it will automatically upload. Also another really cool feature of MOApp’s myWPEdit is the automatic spell checker. If you’re looking for a great WordPress desktop program for your MacBook be sure to check it out in the app store.

Is PageRank Still Important?

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

Many people interested in ranking well in Google quickly discover a flood of information on the web about PageRank. Many people actually become obsessed. Today, Google suggests that people shouldn’t focus solely on PageRank. Google says that they now use over 200 signals towards determining order of importance in search. I believe it, but what do you think? Is PageRank still important?

Google+ vs Facebook

Monday, July 11th, 2011

I got a Google+ invite yesterday from a friend and after signing up I have to say Google+ looks and feels a lot like Facebook.

Here’s a screen shot of Google+

And here’s a screen shot of Facebook

So in a contest of Google+ vs Facebook, which social network do you think is better? Or, will be better a year from now? Or, do you think Google+ will be another fluke Google service like Google Wave?

And yes… I do have adult ADHD.

How Fast Is Your Internet Connection Speed?

Monday, July 11th, 2011

I think my Internet speed is just okay. I use Charter Communications, not by choice. It’s basically the only service in town. Recently though my electric company started a new fiber optic service called CDE Lightband. The download speed is kinda slow at 10 MBPS however, the upload speed is matched. So it’s 10 up and 10 down. Great for doing web hosting out of your home. My Charter line is 28 MBPS download speed and usually around 1.5 MBPS upload. How fast is your Internet connection speed?
